About Jim Ward

Jim Ward was born in London in 1937, but evacuated to Sussex during the war, and has lived in Crawley area almost ever since. He has many musical interests, including music hall and jazz, and is an acknowledged expert on the early recording industry and as a collector of 78rpm records. He has always had an interest in recording technology and bought his first tape recorder in the 1950s.

Jim became interested in the local folk scene in the 1960s and has been a regular contributor and participant ever since, in which time he has built up an extensive collection, from his own fieldwork and in helping others by producing, mastering, copying and preserving their material. As a member of the Sussex Traditions steering group, Jim has been involved in a number of capacities, including initial mastering work on the Tony Wales material, and he has contributed a number of his own recordings to our database.
